  If you feel your rights to own pets are safe, think again!  HSUS is a farce, they are simply a rich political group.  Rich from taking donations under false pretenses.  They have done nothing, nor contributed any money towards helping animals in times of need (ex: hurricane Katrina)and/or shelters.  If you wish to help animal shelters, please send your contributions to the shelter directly.  HSUS is nothing more than a lobbying group trying to pass laws that kill pets and restrict pet ownership, hunting, ranching, etc.  I am definitely NOT animal rights (what an oxymoron) friendly, I am PET friendly!  Please view the links:
